How do you think the germanics reckoned the years before christianity, and before runic calendars? My guess is if they did at all, they counted them by the the reign of their own sitting king, in a similar manner that Japan does. I think they also had an awareness of the 19-year metonic cycle, the Anglo-Saxons having written down the name of the intercalary month and the runic calendars being based on an awareness of the metonic cycle.
